I made a custom GH60 compatible wooden case with underglow support as a first PoC. Some more iterations will come in the future but I am already really satisfied with the result.
The full keyboard specs:
- Gateron Black Inks v2 (lubed with Krytox GPL 205g0, filmed with THICC films) –> leads to buttery and perfect smooth switches!
- BM60RGB hotswap PCB with GK64 layout (requirement was full RGB – this PCB has some drawbacks in this regards)
- GMK screw-in stabs
- custom case foam (some cheap packing material)
- custom QMK config
- some temporary PBT YMDK keycaps – planned and ordered: GMK Laser r2
Some case details:
- resin bottom
- used some beech ledges as wood
- made a first demo case before just to get a feeling of the dimensions
- coloured with some leftover colour as it should match somehow to GMK Laser in the future
Lessons learned:
- work as exactly as possible ! ever !
- use thinner wood – I don’t like the big border
- take your time. When a work step is not perfect, then repeat
- do at least one example before you do a final case.
- use the correct tooling to saw the parts
- a Dremel is your friend
- use M2 standoffs and don’t do it custom as I did
- this small case was more effort then expected 😉
