kbd67 lite R2 black BLE

General

The kbd67 lite R2 in black I bought at candykeys was advertised as “the beginner board” across all keynerd influencers.

I really jumped on the hype train and ordered the board during the GB phase.

As you might have seen the tiffany version of the board, I really enjoy the black version much more which is a personal preference topic.

Next, I need to say, that I ordered the wired PCB version but received the bluetooth PCB. This has at least one downside: You can not use QMK/VIA/VIAL for configuring the keyboard. This is a pity as the software for the wireless PCB is just ****. I am just happy that this form factor does not need a lot of configuration.

Setup

I built the keyboard with the following specs:

  • Gateron Yellow KS3, lubed with krytox 205, filmed
  • cheap PBT keycaps from ali
  • provided stabs, lubed with krytox 205 – changed the spacebar stabiliser case to some durock v2s later on as it was enoying. Had some wobbly spacebar which could be my fault as I turn around my bar.
  • out of the box I added the tape mod
  • used the wired mode as the battery I had at home was too big (but worked directly)

Soundtest

Here are some audio results from my built. The second file reflects my tryout to add some silicone to the bottom of the case. Interestingly the sound signature totally changes with that and is a lot more muted but clacky.

Conclusion

The mounting system for this keyboard is pretty cool. Not too much of flex but a decent amount. I just need a soft bottom out and that is given with the way they implemented the gasket.

For me personally I would like to see a lower price but therefore skip the cable and case. I really have no use for that.

All in all you can not go wrong with that keyboard. For the price point it offers so much and is a great starting point to mod it as you want it. If you are fine with the ABS plastic case – go for it. Also I do like the thocky sound signature.
