Coming from my Polaris and searching for another PCB, I found the compatible waffling PCB from 4pplet#4574.
I ordered a 1,2mm replacement PCB but received a 1,5mm one. 4pplet informed me proactively about the mistake and sent a free replacement. So then I millmaxed the original PCB and have now another 1,2mm PCB as a backup.
After I received the 1,5mm I talked to 4pplet and got the information, that he has some of the 1,5mm PCBs available.
So I planned to create a low budget case and barebone with this leftover PCBs.
There Technofrikus#6809 jumped in and prepared a first 3D printed case which was compatible with the Polaris leftover PCB and plate with some very nice and special features.
The top is hold in place by magnets, the plate is mounted on gaskets (hand cut so far).
I build this case with the 1,5mm PCB, FR4 plate, polyfill inserts and the tape mod and really love the results.
From there on, the idea for a small and budget oriented GB was born.
As we do not want to copy the Polaris idea, Technofrikus designed a new case from scratch, which has now the working title “Stucco” as it’s curves are inspired by stuc. The first version is under test by him right now.
Posting the first draft in the MKD community, there was a lot feedback about the ideas we have.
Based on that feedback, we are thinking on updating the case to be compatible with every GH60 PCB, especially the Plain60 Flex 1,2mm PCB.
Our plans:
- finalising the case (fine tuning, universal PCB support)
- making a small beta test iteration with community members together
- making a small community GB where we offer the case or a complete barebone kit:
- custom typing angle
- custom color selection
- printed in one piece
- barebone comes with plate and PCB
- case comes with feet and gaskets, plate as an option
- gasket mounted
- magnetic top – screwless design
- VIAL compatible
